Good morning! If you're into golf then no doubt you're gearing up for another entertaining week (and weekend) of professional golf as The Masters kicks off on Thursday marking 85 years since this major championship's inception. The total purse for this year is a paltry $11,000,000. Here are a few interesting facts about The Masters, one of the most prestigious pro golf tournaments in the world:
- The club was conceived by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, course was designed by Bobby Jones and Alistair MacKenzie (MacKenzie dying prior to the grass even being planted) and formally opened in January, 1933, in Augusta, Georgia.
- Horton Smith won the very first tournament in 1934
- The very first green jacket was awarded to the 1949 tournament winner, Sam Snead
- Tiger Woods was the youngest player to win the tournament in 1997 when he was 21 years, 3 months and 14 days
- Jack Nicklaus has won The Masters six times, more than any other player and, ironically, is the oldest player to ever have won it when he did so in 1986 at the age of 46 years, 2 months and 23 days
Ok, now let's tell you about what's new at Pepper's!
Passover begins this year on the evening of Friday, April 19th and ends the evening of Saturday, April 27th. And we have loads of kosher food items available in the store! Yehuda Matzos have been around for over 90 years and their unique baking process results in a deeper, well-baked appearance. Additionally, we have a large line of Manischewitz Passover Matzos from their Passover Collection such as Original Matzos, Gluten Free Matzo Style Squares, Egg Matzos and Organic Matzos. We also have Manischewitz Matzo Meal, Matzo Ball Mix and Gefilte Fish!
If you love root vegetables, vinegar and spicy then this is your dream food! Foodfest Red Beet Horseradish combines fresh beets with zingy horseradish and white vinegar to create a delicious accompaniment to whatever people eat horseradish with. Available in our Produce Dept.
And speaking of produce, Longview Farms Fresh Strawberries have just arrived. Their first of the season berries are sweet, luscious and delicious and will definitely get you feeling like summer is just around the corner!
Nobody makes ice cream quite like Haagen-Dazs does. We told you about a bunch of new ice cream flavours recently available in 500ml containers. But sometimes it's nice to eat ice cream one-handed. Spoon-free if you will. In that case, you're going to want to try new Haagen-Dazs Non-Dairy Coconut Caramel Dark Chocolate Bars. This is gourmet, non-dairy ice cream like no other. Or how about Haagen-Dazs Extraaz Cookies and Cream Bars? Take their iconic vanilla ice cream and chunks of chocolatey cookies, blend them together and voila! Instant gratification!
One of the new flavours of Nestle ice cream that we mentioned last week was Rolo. And just as with the Haagen-Dazs, Nestle Rolo Drumstick makes a great frozen treat for on-the-go! It's a classic caramel meets chocolate meets your mouth love story and it always has a happy ending!
Coca Cola keeps cranking out new flavour combinations and its added two new fruity ones that we're pretty excited about. New Coca Cola BC Raspberry is, as it says on the carton, crafted with cane sugar and natural flavours, those flavours apparently derived from fresh raspberries of the heartland of British Columbia. And the other flavour, more closely related to the birthplace of Coke is Coca Cola Georgia Peach (since The Masters is played in Georgia, this might be appropriate sipping material if you plan to watch!).
There's something about sipping a cold soda pop out of an old school glass bottle. And what better way to sip said soda than with these sweet Stainless Steel Straws? Eco-friendly and reuseable, they come with a cleaning brush (just like the bamboo ones from a past newsletter) and a holder. Plus, they're dishwasher safe!
Tim Hortons wants you to be able to drink their products from the comfort of your own home. And so do we! That's why we brought in two new iced coffee beverages for you to try! The classic flavour of the oh so Canadian double-double can be found in a bottle of Tim Hortons Iced Coffee Double Double. Does it taste the same cold? You tell us! Also available is the addictive flavour of the Tim Hortons Original Iced Capp.
