Peppers Newsletter - Jan 24th, 2017

Good morning!

Attached, please find the latest advertised specials page which starts today and runs until closing next Monday. Because of Chinese New Year, much of the specials for the week are related to Chinese cuisine. We have also dedicated an aisle end display entirely to Chinese food. You can find it directly across from the third till!

First, we have to tell you about several small changes of product placement in the store. The non-dairy alternative section has moved from the end of the first aisle to the beginning of the dairy section. This allows for deeper shelving and that means we can put more product out for you to enjoy! In it's place are the tofu and meat alternative products. And now the Happy Planet smoothies that used to be in the cold beverage cooler behind the tills are placed together with the other smoothies and cold juices in the produce section inside left of the entrance to the store. The potatoes can now be found in the outside produce section. We hope that you like these changes to the store!

As usual, we have some new additions to tell you about...

PB2 is not your average peanut butter. In fact, it's not peanut butter but peanut butter in powdered form! You might be asking yourself, "Why would I want powdered peanut butter?" And that would be a good thing to ask yourself. Well, there are a couple of reasons: one is that the calorie count and fat content is about half that of regular peanut butter. The peanuts are first pressed to squeeze out a lot of their oil before being transformed into a powder. And two, a lot of people love to add peanut butter to their smoothies. So you can easily add the powder and still get the protein and flavour, but with less fat and do so without binding up the blender blades. You can also add it to pancakes and a whole lot of other dishes. So if you're looking for something different, give it a try!

Have you tried Tree Island yogurt yet? It's been on the shelves for quite some time, it's local and it's delicious! If you haven't had it, please do so immediately! The yogurt is rich and smooth with 9 grams of protein per serving and 6.5% milk fat. It's artisan-made from 100% grass-fed milk. It contains no antibiotics or growth hormones and absolutely no skim milk powder, thickeners or gelatin. It really is an excellent product. And it just got even better. Tree Island has added a new flavour to it's line of Greek yogurt: Haskap Berry!

What is Haskap? It's a berry (Obviously. Think blueberry with a tang). It's delicious and it's really good for you. Haskaps contain more antioxidants that blueberries, tea, coffee and red wine. So try this exciting new flavour next time you're in the dairy aisle.

And for those of you who enjoy truly authentic Japanese cooking, we have added Eden Mirin to our line of cooking condiments. What is Mirin? According to Wikipedia, it's an essential condiment of Japanese cooking. It is a type of rice wine similar to sake, but with a lower alcohol content and higher sugar content. The sugar content is a complex carbohydrate that forms naturally during the fermentation process; no sugars are added.

As an aside, Shoyu and mirin are the two "must-have" ingredients in Japanese cuisine.

That's all for now. Have a great week!
