Pepper's Newsletter March 10, 2020

Pepper's Newsletter March 10, 2020

Good morning!  Today is a very special day. On this day in 1940 Carlos Ray Norris was born. You might know him by his more familiar professional name: Chuck Norris. Since 2005, Chuck Norris has been known as the world's strongest, toughest, most masculine and most sophisticated man in the world due to the creation of the satirical website Chuck Norris Facts. For example, when Chuck Norris falls in water, Chuck Norris doesn't get wet. Water gets Chuck Norris. Or, when Chuck Norris does a push up, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down. It's hard to believe the star of The Delta Force is 80 years old today because Chuck Norris doesn't get old!

Today is also special because our new ad goes into effect and it just so happens that two items in it are also brand new to Pepper's! So let's just get rolling with the newsletter!

First up is an assortment of goodies from Nanaimo's Hungry Rooster, the Polish Canadian family business where the traditional culinary traditions of Eastern Europe have been passed down through four generations. Hungry Rooster Perogies are gluten-free and made with fresh, local ingredients from a secret family recipe! Pepper's has four hand-made varieties to choose from: Original, Cheddar Potato, Spinach Feta Potato Garlic and Vegan Spinach Feta Potato Garlic! And they're ad-priced this week for $4.96! But that's not all there is from Hungry Rooster! Their Kluski Slaskie Potato Dumplings are traditional dumplings to the Silesia region of Poland and Germany. And they're delicious! Or how about some soup? We have vegan Red Borscht (beet) Soup, as well as Kapusniak (sauerkraut) Soup. Both kinds are also hand-made using a family recipe! If you'd like to read more about this terrific local business, head on over to hungryrooster.ca

If you're into eating fine artisinal cheese then BoMé Cheese of Coombs, BC has exactly what you're looking for! We're pleased as punch to be able to offer their Four Seasons Cheeses, the descriptions of which are taken straight from the company webste: Four Seasons Spring is an alpine cheese. Parsley, chives and dill have been added to compliment the classic mountain cheese profile with the herbaceous impression of spring, new beginnings, and fresh green pastures. Four Seasons Summer - During the course of a Vancouver Island summer the cows have an enhanced pasture based diet that boosts natural levels of beta carotene. Four Seasons Summer has a straw-coloured body and a flavour focused purely on the natural aging process, free of herb and spice. Four Seasons Autumn -This classic cheese encompasses the hallmarks of autumn on Vancouver Island with its deep natural colour. Each cheese is gently spiced with red pepper. Four Seasons Winter Gather around the wood stove with friends and share this delectable, cozy alpine cheese. This cheese is made with sweet roasted garlic and a hint of rosemary. www.bomecheese.ca

Don't worry, vegans, because we have a terrific new non-dairy simulated cheese product just for you! Sheese Vegan Spreadable Cheese Wensleydale Style with Cranberries is a 100% dairy-free, vegan cheese made with coconut oil and is also gluten and lactose-free! It has a wonderfully fruity flavour and is a great alternative to traditional cheddar.

Ands for those of you who have been wondering what hapened to Paradise Island Organic Parmesan the answer is this: it's been discontinued. Bummer. But hold on a second. Could it be that a suitable replacement has been discovered and delivered to our Dairy Department? The answer is YES! One such product indeed does exist and it compliments the already exemplary line of dairy products that we already stock. Riviera Bio-Organic Parmesan Cheese has a firm, crumbly texture and a fruity pungent aroma. This cheese, like all of their organic dairy products, is made with 100% organic Canadian milk. Plus, it's lactose free!

And as long as we're talking about Riviera stuff, we should mention that there are two new limited edition Petit Pot yogurts to delight your tastebuds! You'll remember from past newsletters that these yogurts come in cute little glass containers that you can re-use (we sell the plastic lids to seal them up). Riviera Versailes Lemon Ginger Bouquet is a 9% m.f. gourmet fruit on the bottom yogurt, or, if you prefer, there's Raspberry Mint Bouquet with the same richness of the other but both a tribute to one the lushest gardens in France!

We might as well continue with the dairy products. However these next ones are of the frozen (and local) variety. Island Farms has expanded its line of Premium Ice Cream with five, that's right, five new flavours: Chocolate Brownie, Very Berry, Vanilla Black Cherry, Caramel Cookie Dough and Chocolate Hazelnut (not pictured)! The only way you're going to know what each of these is like is to buy them all! And this week we make that easily achievable because they're in our ad for just $5.46 each

And finally, our Produce Department has Organic Garlic from Winderberry Edibles Farm of Windermere, BC! Choose from three varieties: Purple Stripe, Rocambole or Porcelain

Let's hope that the stress of springing forward an hour this past weekend has started to wane by the time you've read this. It wil for sure have subsided by this time next week. Until then take good care!
