Pepper's Newsletter May 21, 2019

Good morning!  For those of you returning to work this morning after enjoying a long weekend, we can sympathize. It's always tough slogging the first day back. The good news is that you get to enjoy another one of our newsletters and hopefully it takes the sting out of heading into the ol' salt mine again. Our first order of business involves informing you about a cause near and dear to our hearts: Project Peanut Butter.

Project Peanut Butter has begun! Did you know summer is one of the leanest times of year for food bank donations? We have joined with Island Nut Roastery & Merry Maids to help keep the shelves of the Mustard Seed full this summer! From now until June 18th, for every jar of peanut butter donated,
Pepper’s Foods, Island Nut Roastery & Merry Maids will each donate a jar of Island Nut Roastery Peanut Butter to the Mustard Seed. One jar donated = four!!

You can bring in any kind of peanut butter to the store from anywhere or purchase any jar from us and leave it with a cashier. It's a small gesture that can make a BIG difference to those who are less fortunate!

First up on our list of new items is Hellmann's Vegan Dressing & Sandwich Spread. Carefully crafted with non-GMO sourced ingredients, this certified vegan dressing contains no eggs, trans fats, gluten, cholesterol, artificial colours or flavours. The Hellmann's Canada website shows that it has a 4.4 star rating out of a possible five from over 200 reviews, many of which state that there's finally a vegan mayo that tastes like the real deal! You're just going to have to try it for yourself to find out!

You know what's more fun than eating vegan mayonnaise? That's right...drinking vegan Caesars! Now you can enjoy that vegan sandwich with Walter Craft Vegan Caesar Mix. The bottle states: this 100% plant-based mix is seasoned with horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, select spices and dulse hand-harvested from the Bay of Fundy. Dulse is an edible seaweed which "imparts a taste of the sea." So if you suffer from a shellfish allergy, now you've got the go-ahead to enjoy a Caesar (or two) with this premium, Canadian mix! But don't forget, we also have the Walter Classic Caesar and Walter Spicy Caesar mixes for those who prefer or can tolerate the clam juice.

If you're looking for another thing to eat that'll impart a taste of the sea on your tongue then look no further than Kim Nori Seasoned Seaweed Snacks. Available in Sea SaltSweet n Spicy and Korean BBQ, this edible seaweed (Nori is the Japanese name for edible seaweed) is of the highest quality and makes for a delicious (and highly nutritious) snack!

Beyond Meat is taking consumers by storm! And we've been stocking Beyond Meat Sausages and Beyond Meat Burgers (4 packs) since they became available for retail. And now, we have Beyond Meat Burgers 2.0! If you want to purchase these meatless burgers in a two-pack, now you can! Get in on the action and try "The world's first plant-based burger that looks, cooks and satisfies like beef without gluten, soy or GMOs."

If you're still using one of those wire bristled BBQ grate cleaners, you could literally be putting your health at risk. More and more people are reporting that they've ingested a fine wire bristle that broke off and stuck to their food. Obviously this is going to bum out you and everyone else attending your BBQ if it happens. Plus, after all those wire bristles have fallen off, you have to throw away a substantial hunk of plastic. So why not use a solid, hardwood grill scraper such as the Original Barbeque Grill Scraper to do the job? It's a safer and friendlier way to clean your BBQ grill. Simply heat up the grill, use the beveled edge to clean the top of the grill, and turn it sideways to get in between grates. Over time, grooves will form to your grill’s grate. Plus it doubles as a miniature oar, windshield scraper and corporal punishment device (just kidding!).

If you're throwing a huge sushi dinner party or any other kind of asian inspired cooking dinner party sometime soon, you're going to need some appropriate eating utensils. How about a bag of 24 pairs of Bamboo Chopsticks? There's not much more to say about this item except that you'll find it in Aisle 4.

Canadian entrpreneurs Chris Emery and Larry Finnson pitched Chris' grandmother's recipe to the Dragons on CBC's Dragon's Den. They got a deal and created  a multi-million dollar business which they sold in 2006. In 2012, they returned with OMG's, their new gourmet confection of delicious chocolatey graham clusters mixed with almonds, toffee bits or pretzels. Available in ChocolateVanilla and Peanut Butter Pretzel, these sweet snacks have a taste that will leave you saying OMG!

Finally, we have succulent and oh so tasty tomatoes from Victoria's own Glanford GreenhousesRomacherry and tomatoes-on-the-vine varieties grace our Produce Dept. shelves and are as local as it gets! Make sure to pick up some of these amazing fruits next time you shop at Pepper's!

That's all she wrote, people! As always, thanks for taking a look and we look forward to seeing you in the aisles!
