Good morning! Another Thanksgiving has come and gone and for many that means a week of turkey leftovers awaits! Here's hoping that you and your loved ones created many fond memories during your celebration. As we so often like to do, here's a little bit of history surrounding Canadian Thanksgiving for you according to The Canadian Encyclopedia: Sir Martin Frobisher and his crew are credited as the first Europeans to celebrate a Thanksgiving ceremony in North America, in 1578. They were followed by the inhabitants of New France under Samuel de Champlain in 1606. The celebration featuring the uniquely North American turkey, squash and pumpkin was introduced to Nova Scotia in the 1750s and became common across Canada by the 1870s. In 1957, Thanksgiving was proclaimed an annual event to occur on the second Monday of October.

As we're all well aware, it's baking season and that requires one key ingredient: margarine. Now slow down a minute, we know what you're going to say: there's no substiture for butter when it comes to baking! That may be truth for a lot of you, but many will swear that margarine is the bomb. The good news? Pepper's sells both! But for those who choose margarine, we've got new Becel Margarine Sticks in both Salted and Unsalted. Make cooking or baking easier with convenient, pre-measured half cup sticks that require no softening (and contain no hydrogenated oils). With 50% less saturated fat than butter, you can replace it 1:1.
Maybe you don't want to bake with your margarine? No problem, you can spread it on top of the delicious and fluffy pancakes that you just made using Cloud 9 Gluten-Free Pancake & Waffle Mix! Nut-free, soy-free, dairy-free and kosher, this certified gluten-free mix will definitely impress your picky breakfast-eaters during the holidays.
These days, many consumers are trying hard to modify their diets. And sugar is often the first ingredient to go. But that sweet-tooth makes it very difficult to give up. However, there's one fruit that can offer a great substitute for the sweet stuff: dates. Yes, dates are high in natural sugars. But unlike white sugar which contains no nutritional value, just empty calories, dates contain loads of potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. But dates are also extremely versatile. In addition to the fruit making a simple and nutritious snack, they can be made into spreads and syrups. And that leads us to our next new products by Nawa. Nawa Pure Date Syrup can be used in place of maple syrup (see previous product), as a coffee sweetener or as a topping for Greek yogurt! And Nawa Date Spread makes a wonderful topping for toast or bagels, a great sweetener for smoothies or an awesome sugar substitute for moist baked goods such as banana bread or brownies. Of course, if you're simply interested in just dates then Nawa Medjool Dates are also available!
As long as we're on the subject of diet modification, we have an incredible, new (and 100% Canadian) product that may get you off the potato chips: ThreeWorks Apple Chips! These are chips that crunch and look like potato chips but are made from apples! Featured on the hit CBC television show Dragon's Den, these healthy snacks, available in So Original, Pinch-O-Cinnamon and Hot For Caramel are vegan, fat-free, gluten-free and have no added sugars. And Pepper's has them in our ad this week for the super price of just $3.46 each! Plus, your purchase helps support Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada!
Moving on from one apple product to another, if there's an area of your home that you'd rather have smelling pleasant, rather than like the horrid, awful and disgusting place it is now, then new Febreze Small Spaces Fresh-Pressed Apple Deodorizer should help out. This limited edition apple-cinnamon smelling deodorizer is perfect for closets, your teenager's room (may require more than one unit), lockers, bathrooms and any other foul-smelling space that needs some serious odour-killing attention!
Have you had your Mo lately? What's that now? You've never even heard of Mo before? Of course, we're talking about mochi! According to Wikipedia, it is: a small, round confection consisting of a soft, pounded sticky rice dumpling (mochi) formed around an ice cream filling. The ice cream flavors the confection while the mochi adds sweetness and texture. In other words, it's a Japanese frozen treat that tastes great and is so fun to eat! New My/Mo Mochi Cashew Cream Frozen Dessert is a premium, non-dairy, vegan frozen dessert wrapped in a sweet, soft dough! Available in Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry, this unique treat has a chewy, smooth and elastic texture. You've never had so much fun not eating ice cream!
